The 20th anniversary of the first Woodlands Earth Day Festival and 40th anniversary of the first global Earth Day observance will take place on Saturday, April 10, 2010.

The Environmental Services Department actively promotes preserving the natural environment. Providing tips and resources for healthy, sustainable living, the department coordinates Earth Day, Woodlands Landscaping Solutions, Adopt a Pathway, A Walk in the Woods Nature Lecture Series, Walk to School, recycling events and mosquito surveillance.

Environmental Services also monitors the contract with Waste Management, providing an integrated residential solid waste plan for the community. Services include once-per-week curbside collection of garbage, recyclables and yard waste.

In addition, the department oversees The Woodlands Recycling Center, located on Research Forest Drive, and the Community Gardens at Bear Branch Sportsfields.
